Hate mornings? Me too. Here’s my version of a morning success ritual.

They all say it. You need a morning ritual! High-fliers, entrepreneurs, movers and shakers swear by the power of a morning ritual.

Psssst, I’d love to tell you that I have a rebellious rockstar morning ritual consisting of gin and a jazz woodbine followed by lazing on the beach running my empire from my iPhone.

The more boring truth is that I gave up smoking medicinal herbage a long time ago (messed with ability to get sh*t done) and gin is just for weekends these days (my kidneys are 40 years old!). And I currently live in rainy cold England nowhere near a decent beach.

Also, let us not forget that I’m not really a morning person.

My morning ritual is a more of a ‘up at the crack of noon ritual’.

Guess what? You don’t have to get up at sunrise to be a success. You don’t have to start the day with an hour of yoga, a green smoothie and a selfie with perfect make up.

The only yoga I practise is the art of trying to put socks on while still half asleep at 10am, so I can run downstairs and let the organic fruit delivery dude in. Those veggies don’t grow themselves, yo.

And yes. I am one of those organic fruit munching weirdos. Just don’t thrust a green smoothie in my face *yuk*.

Do I have any semblance of morning routine?

Here’s the thing, I am 40 years old. I know myself pretty well by now. I know what I like and don’t like.

I know that I hate routine. So I have more of a casual affair with waking up than most.

Here’s my vague version of a morning ritual…

My alarm goes off at 8:30am and I always ignore it. I don’t know why I bother setting it at all. Basically I only need it for the day my cleaner comes (9am!) and the 2 days I have posh food delivered. Yes I’m a foodie. Yes I like to have a clean house without scrubbing the bog (n.toilet) myself.

I naturally wake up anytime between 9am-10am and sneakily check messages and groups on my phone using the apps. I banned the normal Facebook app ages ago as it’s too distracting. I only have the FB Pages app and the FB Groups app for my business.  I say ‘sneakily’ because I did promise myself that checking my phone would NOT be the first thing I did in the morning. But I’m a rebel and I hate rules. I even rebel against myself.

I love the start the day with something juicy that wakes me up; fresh juice or a smoothie. I made a mini juice bar in my kitchen so it’s easy for me to blend a load of yummy stuff together.

I then potter about a bit. Tidy up. Put a face mask on. Take my retainers out so I can eat (I paid £5k to fix my smile – I wear my retainers religiously every night). Organise my desk or impromptu workspace (today it’s the sofa) so it’s fit to actually work in.

Pottering is important. Not to be confused with procrastination. Pottering gets my head out of itself and makes my brain shut the f*ck up so ideas can flow.

I start work about midday. Sometimes by then it’s lunchtime so sometimes I even have lunch first.

Sometimes I don’t start work at all because I fancy going out for the day.

Newsflash: its your morning, it’s your life, it’s your business – run it however you want.

If you ENJOY being up at 5am, sipping on pulverised Kale and writing your best-seller while in downward dog – go for it. It’s just not for me.

But don’t think you MUST start your day like that. Find YOUR daily rhythm

Chaotic rebel freaks like me get epic sh*t done too.
